“I Apply Sunscreen Every Day—So Why Does My UV Pigmentation Score Remain
High?”
This is one of the most common questions clients ask when they receive their skin analysis report. Their tone often reflects frustration and genuine confusion.
In this edition of the SBI Business Academy, we explain the principles behind UV pigmentation imaging and explore how intelligent skin analysis solutions can help beauty and aesthetic practices develop personalized programs—from daily sun protection to targeted pigmentation care.
What Do UV Pigmentation Images Actually Reveal?
MEICET UV images can detect underlying sun-induced pigmentation that has accumulated beneath the skin but is not yet visible on the surface.
The darker areas shown in the images are generally not the result of short-term sun exposure. Instead, they reflect the cumulative effects of UV exposure over many years—essentially providing a long-term record of the skin’s exposure to sunlight.
This also explains why UV pigmentation scores may remain high even when a client applies sunscreen regularly.
Consistent sun protection helps reduce continued UV exposure and the formation of new pigmentation. However, it cannot immediately clear melanin that accumulated in the deeper layers of the skin years ago. As a result, previous photodamage may still appear clearly in UV images.
